How to Make Screen Capture Videos

I have been using Movavi now for a few years and it's a tool that I can't live without. Mostly I use this tool to demonstrate how I do things to show others. For example, I might make a quick screen grab video to show a client how to do a certain thing with an app or whatever. I also use it to demonstrate in my coaching.

It's easy to use, once you download it. First you use your curser to capture the area you want to record (just like a screen grab), then you press the record button. There is a 5 second countdown and the program has internal speakers. If you need to trim the video you can download an editor, however I usually just do it in Quicktime as I'm not a professional video maker and don't pretend to be.

Here is the video I made to demonstrate this.

If you want to record without paying any software there are some ways you can do this using the tools you probably already have.

PowerPoint

Most people have PowerPoint but did you know you with Microsoft Office 365 you can actually record your screen?

Go to the Insert tab, and select Screen Recording - icon of a recorder and a screen. Select the area of the screen you want to capture and record. Start recording when you are ready. When you’re done you can save the video as a separate file. There are not too many options for editing but it is a way to make a quick video.

YouTube Live Streaming

Need a quick video for your YouTube channel? Well you can live stream and create one. Once you sign into your YouTube account, go to UPLOAD, then click Get Started under Live Streaming and choose Events.

Choose select new live event, fill out information then click Go Live Now. This will take you to a Google Hangouts. On the left there is a button “Screenshare”. Select the desktop window you are going to record and start the broadcast. Stop when finished and save your event. What I love about the YouTube Live Streaming is you are not waiting around for the video to upload. You can live stream for up to 8 hours.

Once you go over to Google Hangouts you will be on your webcam so you can actually record a live video to you tube of you talking as another option.

Here is an example of one screen capture video I made.

QuickTime Player

If you’re on a Mac, you may prefer using QuickTime. Launch QuickTime, select File, and choose New Screen Recording. This will open up a small recording window that you can start, where you can select either a part of your screen or the full screen for recording.

Click Start Recording when you are ready. You need to be able to do a one take with Quick time because there really isn’t much option for editing.

Creating screen capture videos is a fantastic way to build content especially if you are an online marketer and looking to demonstrate how to do things. I've also made quick demonstration videos for my client's who didn't really know how to do certain things on their computer to show them how. This saves them time and of course it is quick and easy for me to create a demo video.
